It certainly is, Dr. Clarage. We are doing our best as a family to prepare our property in Idaho (won’t be moving for 2 years yet), so we can provide clean unadulterated meat and produce for our community there (and anyone who visits, etc.). I know it won’t be much, but God has called us to this and we’re going forward with it. We MUST do something -- anything to help others and ourselves have access to clean, real food.
Yes....yuck! When I forgot I was boycotting The Great British Baking show and accidentally watched one, that idiot, Pru said cricket flour "was enormously tasty" and encourages everyone to try it! Oh yay! Between that and all the contestants who are out and out SO gay, that show has been crossed off my list. The American one is EVEN worse. So gross. Just leave us alone already. But, you think they can do that??? No way. This is such BS.
Oh my GOSH! I guess I'm grateful I've never watched that show. Thank you for letting me know how dank it is. We watch Diners Driveins and Dives with Guy Fieri. The DS LOVES that show and also one called All Up In My Grill (he's totally upped his grill game because of that show).
It is BS and it's really disturbing because you KNOW they're going to try to sneak it on us.
And for that matter why are they going through all this effort to try to approximate something that perfectly good chickens have been able to do for millennia?
Do they construct a fake chicken skeleton out of some kind of heat tolerant plastic to make drumsticks?
Why limit to existing forms of meat?
Wouldn’t it be more marketable to actually approximate Brontosaurus burgers? Could probably even negotiate the ad deal with Hanna Barbera
Are they legally allowed to call the product “meat”? Or will they finally allow Froot loops to call itself Fruit loops? Cheez whiz can finally become real cheese?
They probably can’t call their product ‘organic’, eliminating a large customer base
They don’t realize the can of worms they open here.
I agree about the “other” kinds of meat. Strangely, I’ve read credible evidence (from multiple sources) that there are “food tech” companies that are cultivating “human meat.”
So, do you admire Christina Aguilera? You can eat “meat” that tastes like her. Love watching movies with Patrick Swayze? Great, you can have Swayze meat! Gross.
...hi Samantha, great to know u are ok and looking so well...and husband...so much truth in ur article....so, 'ergoes another of my traditional cautions or warnings via this link!...https://youtu.be/jG1CaXt967M ...take care meantime, Samantha!...

Hi Gerry -- I look forward to reading this short story. I’m getting to write about things that interest me here on Substack, and sometimes I get ti write about things that are incredibly important to me. I don’t get to do it as often as I like, but Substack has definitely given me a place to do it sometimes!
The meat story IS disgusting, but people NEED to know.
And thank you for the kind words about our growing. I can mail you seeds when we get our harvest this year, if you like. Also, I have a huge seed bank full of catalogued seeds from our years of growing -- all organic, non-gmo.
Thanks for the offer but the rules on mailing seeds between countries make that a bad idea. 😞 You have inspired me to search for some in the UK though!
Well. I’ve heard rumors that seeds could be mistakenly shipped as ‘spices’ due to absent minded mistakes in customs labelling when shipping other things, but of course I have no personal experience of this.
Hi Baltimoracle -- the move is happening for myriad reasons and we have definitely considered the learning curve we will experience when starting our growing there. It’s possible to grow (almost) anywhere 12 months per year. We do that here...but I understand it’s far different (not necessarily easier) here and that is what I know.
DS is from rural Connecticut and it took him a bit to understand and learn the movements of the seasons here and how this impacts growing times, seasons, etc. He knew more than me even back then.
I have no illusions that things will be easy there. We both know it will be a great challenge, but also an adventure.
In addition, we’ll be raising far more animals there. Here we can only manage chickens and ducks, but there we’ll add goats, pigs, quail, and probably other things as we become more accustomed.
We already have a church in the area (45 minutes away, but the church we go to here is 45 minutes away) and a very close friend.
It’s scary -- I’m not gonna lie. I’m used to certain amenities and living a certain way. But we are excited and committed. We won’t be moving for 2 years. We still have 2 (fairly grown) kids around who we want to see settled first.
45 min. ! ... Gosh, there's probably 17 LDS "wards" (i think they call 'em) over that distance ( jk -- sort of ) ... many prayers your way --- I really admire people that seize life AND still worship He that grants it
No bugs. No lab-grown meat. I’ll grow and hunt my own if I have to.
And ... I don’t know if this might be one of the plot twists you were hoping for ... but a cartel sicario was spotted in Matamoros a couple weeks back with a Javelin antitank missile, presumably purchased from Ukrainian black marketeers. I’m only surprised that it took that long.
Sorry. I haven’t been keeping track of comments and replies. Igor Chudov had a post awhile back pointing out that lab grown meat is essentially just cancer. I expect you saw it. Eeeeewwww ...
It is hard to fathom that we are heading full speed down this route.
It certainly is, Dr. Clarage. We are doing our best as a family to prepare our property in Idaho (won’t be moving for 2 years yet), so we can provide clean unadulterated meat and produce for our community there (and anyone who visits, etc.). Act local
All the great souls have shown us that.
That’s exactly what we’re doing here in Texas and we’ll carry that on to our new community up there. It’s going to be an adventure!
If it doesn't taste like chicken, like all other random meat, then we know we have a serious problem (:
Haha! Indeed, Roman!

I would imagine that consuming a surplus of oncogenes may contribute to one’s own cancer risk, despite DNA breakdown by cooking and digestion.
Henrietta Lacks’ HeLa cells are cancerous and immortal. Perhaps her oncogenes are incorporated into this exciting and savory new lab-grown meat!
Indeed, John! These “immortal” cells are so insidious. It’s absolutely evil. And if we consume such cells? You know what will probably happen...
I’d wonder how many animal derived products are required to make the fake meat.
Bet its like most of these things — when you add up the total cost its a net loss against whatever resource you think you are avoiding
Well, one thing -- from what I read, these companies (the two that are approved) say one pound of their ‘chicken’ will cost about $20.
What? Our free range, organic chicken meat is $6.99/lb. How is $20 a pound helpful AT ALL??? Insanity.
And for that matter why are they going through all this effort to try to approximate something that perfectly good chickens have been able to do for millennia?
Do they construct a fake chicken skeleton out of some kind of heat tolerant plastic to make drumsticks?

Which _could_ be labeled organic.

Ver interesting article, Gerry. Saving it so my husband can read it!
Yuk to the "meat" story but 👍 to your veg growing. I've always wanted to grown life but the seeds are hard to come by - maybe next year!
The meat story IS disgusting, but people NEED to know.

Really? I knew there were some rules, there are here. For instance, when we go to Mexico, we can’t bring fruit back, etc.
Well. I’ve heard rumors that seeds could be mistakenly shipped as ‘spices’ due to absent minded mistakes in customs labelling when shipping other things, but of course I have no personal experience of this.
Oh really, Dr. Flurm? Rumors are often so very interesting!
... unless chock full of fentanyl precursors --- then they'll look the other way ( jk )
Samantha, doesn't the bounty of a 9 month growing season give you guys pause when considering a move to the Rockies ? ... God bless !

That should read "lufa" - didn’t see the auto-correct.

I agree Jack about the hunting our own food, if it comes to that. That plot twist might be a good one (for our side).
We haven’t talked in a long time, Jack. It’s good to see you here. Your stories are ALWAYS fascinating!
Sorry. I haven’t been keeping track of comments and replies. Igor Chudov had a post awhile back pointing out that lab grown meat is essentially just cancer. I expect you saw it. Eeeeewwww ...
What an honor to receive such a kind word from you, Titus. Thank you.
